Could you declare getting inside someone's shield?

How about immobilizing a shield's effectiveness through pinning or grabbing their shield.

These two technique's are staples in combat. How would you veteran GMs handle this in BW?

As an example this is how I might approach a situation in RL:

Combatant 1 (lets call him Don) has a sword and Combatant 2 (lets call him SCA wanker, or Wanker for short) has a sword and a shield. Don grabs the outer edge of the shield and use it to block Wanker's own sword, while keeping the shield out of the way of Don's own sword blows. Trust me, its very effective :D

Hm. That's interesting.

Well, you can Get Inside and neutralize a shield.

But what exactly is happening in the instance your grabbing that shield? Is it an opposed Power test as you struggle for control?

I just read some historical accounts about the early Franks and javelin use. If the javelin hit someone's shield and that person didn't pitch their shield - the Franks would run up and step on the javelin, pulling the shield down and out of line while they whacked that guy. Just something to think about in terms of "how" people are neutralizing shields.

Yeah, I suppose an opposed power check would be in order.

Maybe a special type of lock ('shield pin') where the lock reduces both blocking dice with the shield and armor dice.

Brawl manuever?

Someone who is an excellent sense of balance and has his wits about him could contest the lock (maybe a brawling check instead of power?). Usually Wanker would be forced to retreat from Don because they were put off balance.

Could you affect a shield with a disarm action?

Okay, you have two questions to answer here.

1. Do you grab the shield, or does he get it away from you.

2. If you did grab the shield do you gain effective control of it, or does he get it away from you?

What happens depends on how you answer one or both questions.

Further complicating matters is how he counters your attempts. He may try to pull the shield away from you. Or he may shove his shield in your face. He may strike with a weapon or deftly aside.

And what are you using to grab the shield? Bare hands, a hook, an axe? Are you trying to grab the shield so you can move it aside for a clear shot at the villain, or are you trying to push or pull it in some manner for the same purpose.

This could get involved.

(Unfortunately, I won't have the money for a copy until the first, so the mechanical stuff gets to wait for later.)
