So, this is the talk thread along the actual fight thread. Who's going to come out on top?
I'm going to vote Gord myself - I have no clue how the Faith will work in this fight, but this'll help us figure it out, I'm sure.
Let's have fun!

Be sure to communicate about the Faith. There's no guidelines to how long it takes to pray and can be abused. Blessings usually take two actions I'd say, at the minimum. But, if you take your time and make a really cool prayer, you could argue for an advantage die.

I thought I saw a guideline that said: 1 action for every point of ob of the prayer. We could use that.
Then there's the weapon length thing a combat prayer has - is it automatically longest, still? How do you position with it?
I'd like to know these things before Gord starts locking me up. :)

One action per Ob sounds like a good rule of thumb to me. We can give that a try.
As for positioning, it reads as fairly straightforward. On Pg 234, it says that Faith counts as Presence Origin, always the longest weapon. However, since it is a tandem action rather than an action in and of itself, I am not sure how that works. I am assuming that you can't position with your faith and then stab with your knife for example.

In a fantasy setting Faith and Sorcery being the longest weapon make a lot of sense to me in positioning. It's a hesitance thing. You are trying to get around the spear head or the tip of the sword and you have to figure out how to do that without getting run through. So in a world where you know deadly magic is a reality how do you plan around it? You don't you just take your lumps in positioning and hope you close with the priest or sorcerer before he fries you or worse.

Yeah, right out. Verrain, we had planning on a sorcerous duel like a year ago. After we see how this goes we should definately puersue that again if your interested.

If real life allows, I am all up for that. :)

Great start guys!
So I am certain it's been joked about before but if Gord loses then "One man enters and no man leaves." Right?

Just to clarify, use Faith to position only if the prayer goes off that volley and only if it effects the other character.

That sounds ok!
Edit: let's do initial positioning?

Sounds good. How have you guys been handling the rolling?

there's a diceroller called 'metstebeucher' or something (just switched to a new computer, not all my links are good yet). One of the earlier fight threads should have a link. You can enter a code under which history will be saved, and you can make it count sucs.
I gotta relinquish internet connectivity for a bit (am upgrading wireless setup), so back later.

OK, I've rolled my initial positioning. I used BelindaGord for the code.

I'm guessing Belida's object is just to get out? How can she possibly win? With a baby in arm?

For the Arena, you ought to script which effect you're praying for, I suggest.

Ok, so I withdrew, when I was already out of lunging. I intend to run, but how should we play this out?
(You could call me unfair, because we said we'd Fight!, and I'd say you had a point, then we'd need to figure something else out).

OK, color me confused.
First off, why do you think you started at out of lunging? Initial positioning was stated to be optimal for my club which puts you at lunging. (Club in short, Knife/fist is shortest) So you have withdrawn to outside lunging not out of combat.
Second, if you didn't want a fight, why am I wasting my time with this? You asked for a combatant for your character, I made one especially to your specifications, and you ok'd it. So if you run away now, I fully expect you to stage the second encounter where Gord tracks Belinda down only this time, we will describe how it takes place in an area where she can't run away.

Tobias, you loser!! There's no running away from an Arena combat! Stop wasting our time and kill already!!
Tobias

Fine, Fine. I was just playing out the logical thing for Belinda to do in this encounter. Knowing that a fight was planned between us players, I said I'd stick around, and so I will. No running away.
I WAS confused about the ranges, yes (I thought the club was a Long weapon). So now I'm out of lunging, and Gord's in Lunging? That's fine with me, lets play on.

The Arena is for fighting and killing, not roleplaying! Sheesh! The only logical thing for Belinda to do is to stick a knife in that guard's throat!
KILL! KILL! KILL!!

Sheesh, all that lack of bloodsport has made you edgy!

Ok, my V2 is up. If you do color first, I'll do mine after!

Will do but just to clarify the rules, the Charge is considered a Power based positioning test which means that you should not have rolled a separate Natural Defense roll but instead should have just rolled Speed for positioning as normal and that counts as your Natural Defense roll. So it should have been your 2 successes from positioning plus your 2 successes for Avoid for a total of four. As it happens with my +2ob for being at lunging, I still fail the charge. I just wanted us to be on the same page for future.

Ok, that's clear. So you are prone now? Next Ex?
Verrain

Yep, I'm prone and you are at Outside Lunging. Next exchange.
Tobias

My next exchange has been up for a few days now.

I know. I've been buried under family medical troubles. I'll try to get my exchange up tonight.
Tobias

Family medical troubles override the Arena. Take your time.
