View Full Version : Designing new Lifepaths

Lifepaths are one of the best and yet one of the worst things about Burning Wheel. When the appropriate one exists, it's a great way to generate a character. However, I tend to use rather unusual settings, and most of the existing Lifepaths aren't quite right (or are totally wrong).
Soooooooo....I need to tweak and generate new ones.
Are there guidelines anywhere on the best way to go about this?

ask and thou shalt receive. Here are the original guidelines I wrote up last year:

These since have been updated, edited and expanded upon in the Monster Burner (which is due out next month!)
I encourage you to shake the notion that lifepath creation is burdensome. It's really not. So long as you keep your concepts tight and focussed, you should be able to kick out three settings in an afternoon. The Slaver Raider, Black Barbian and Lost Atlantean Settings didn't take more than a day each. The time intensive part is describing all the traits for public consumption. But if you're just using your LPs internally, you really don't need to do this.
have fun!

Thanks! I'm sure that will come in useful. Now anxiously awaiting the Monster Burner...(is Magic after that?)
