View Full Version : Can one Help on the BoA on a DoW?

It's clear from countless examples here on the forum that those present at a DoW between two characters can choose to help either one side or the other on specific actions (or even alternate between sides, should they wish to do so... and should the duellists accept their help, despite the flip-flopping).

But can others help when rolling for Body of Argument at the beginning of the Duel? Or must BoA be established by the duellist alone, without any help?

BoA is established by the duelist alone. No one can help.

Yes, you can help just like any other test.

Really? Can you then FoRK for your BoA as well?

It is a test like any other. All of the basic testing rules in the Spokes apply to the Rim unless otherwise stated.

We often insist that if a player helps with a body of argument, that player should only offer help to that side for the rest of the DoW. No helping the other side too. You've got to be committed to help with the BoA.

Hmm. Then, if you also helped during the actual duel, but switched sides, you could theoritically be chipping away at the same BoA point that you created. I suppose, in the end, it's not really any different than if you switch sides from one exchange to the next in the duel itself, it just sounded funny for second.

EDIT: Wow, Thor responded to this before I was even done typing it. Amazing!

OK, great... thanks for confirming.

A-ha! You have correctly intuited my follow-up question-- which is whether helping during the BoA should limit you to only helping that side in subsequent actions. Thanks!

Gah! Really? I can't remember it being done in my experience.

One of the last DoWs we had in THAC0 had help on the BoA. I don't remember which one exactly.

I think nearly every DoW for which our characters were present together involved help. It's anathema to Thor's style of play not to maximize dice!
