In this post (http://burningwheel.org/forum/showpost.php?p=51426&postcount=4), Thor describes Rich spending a Persona point to avoid taking a B13 hit with a rock.

If you can do that, wouldn't that essentially eliminate the need to pay persona for a mortal wound? For the same price, you can just not get hit at all!

Or do you find untreated Severe and Traumatic wounds are often the cause of Mortal wounds?

Sanjeev - this would have been the perfect way to avoid Ladislav's White Fire. Pay Persona for a complication; the bolt hits the mask, which splits asunder, but leaving Gomdril uninjured.

If you're using complications, you can indeed escape death with a persona point, but you've got to balance it with an equally bad or catastrophic event!

So, it seems to me that it comes down to asking whether you have downtime to waste, or resources/status/connections to burn...

...though it seems like you would almost never choose to take the wound (the exception being if you're playing a very sedate, slow-paced game, where the recovery times can be fit into the natural pace of events).

Taking wounds and turning over initiative could be interesting, i think - i haven't played a game with any major wounds *yet* - however, you would have to have the whole group willing to do so...
