Thanks for the introduction, Luke. Well, this is where I'll be posting the rules and other anouncements for Paradise Lost. Let me just start you off on how I run play-by-post games.

As of the beginning of this game, my players are DaGreatJL, Verrain, Tom B, Jkahrs, and Ubby. All of you should please reply to this topic to let me know that you are present and able to write in this forum.

I will adjucate moves once per day, usually late at night. This is fairly quick for a PbP game, but I think that it's a good idea to get into the habit of looking at the boards every day. You are not required to post every day, but you should be watching in case something happens that you need to react to. Inter-character dialogue usually won't require me to make any rulings, so chat among yourselves as you wish. All rolls will be made by me, and I will keep track of tests for advancement.

As Luke said, making a move does not require you to write a novel. But nor should you make any one-word or one sentence moves. As long as it's to the point and accurately conveys what you wish to do, it should be fine.

When writing your post, please use quotation marks to indicate when your character is speaking, and write out what he is doing. OOC questions should be kept to a minimum, but if you must include such a question, please enclose it in (( double parentheses )) and put it at the end of your post. For purely OOC chat, I'll make a separate OOC topic for use.

When combat begins, I will send out a private message to remind everyone that they need to write their scripts. From the time I make this anouncement, you will have 48 hours to reply to me, in PM, what your script will be. Extensions will be granted only in the event of questions or severe problems with your script. Failure to submit a script will result in you doing nothing but Standing and Drooling.

Artha will be handed out on a rolling basis. When I see something that pleases me, I'll give out points of Artha.

As of right now, I am using the standard rules for Artha and wound penalties. If you would like to use the alternate methods, ask me, and I'll put it to a vote.

When I wish to draw someone's attention to something or tell them something only they know, I will indicate it in my posts like this:

Luke> Hey, there's a spider on your back!!

Such information is only for that character, unless they choose to share it.

That should do it for table rules. By the way, would everyone who is wearing armor PLEASE tell me exactly what pieces they have so I can calculate armor dice and penalties? Also, everyone needs to list exactly what they are carrying for 'Travelling gear'. Be specific. Once play begins, you cannot add or change it.

EDIT: ALso, would everyone please please PLEASE post a physical description of their characters as well?

Replying to topic as requested. I would like to use the alternate rules, but it's not a big deal. Whatever you decide.

Personally I prefer the alternate Wound Penalty and Artha systems, but I'm comfortable with both.

Galanthas wears a leather jacket protecting his torso and upper arms. I believe that's 3D at DN 6 in the original system.

Galanthas' Traveling Gear: Flint & Steel, Waterskin, Pack, whetstone, spool of twine, extra bow strings, Quiver, paring knife, white linen handkerchief (the ol' multi-purpose bandage, rag, blindfold, etc.), Mother's locket (simple piece of jewelry, significant sentimental value), Ranger Badge (cloak brooch, badge of office).

Question for you Kane: Every GM is different on elven sleeping gear. I've played that an elf with a cloak sleeping outdoors needs no further "bedroll" as he is comfortable in a natural element. Do you feel an elven ranger would require a bedroll or blanket if camping outdoors?

Galanthas te'Allvior stands just over six feet tall with a slender and lithe frame (shocking in an elf I know). Moves gracefully and silently, yet with purpose. Long, light brown hair which he wears tied back. Deep blue, almond shaped eyes, that can seem very hard at times though he is not slow to smile and be jovial. Fair skinned. Soft tenor voice.

When outdoors, tends to wear his forest green cloak with the hood up. His clothing is in earth tones, primarily shades of green, with some browns and grays. Carries a pair of knives on his belt, with his quiver and bow on his back. Wears high soft boots.

I've not actually seen either set of rules in action so either is fine with me.

As for the armor, Hob has a vest and hauberk of quilted armor and he wears boots.

I'll get the travelling gear and the physical description when I've got more brain working.

Oh quick question, do you want us to write from first person or third person perspective? Also, do you prefer present or past tense? Some people don't care; others have a set way and anything else grates so I thought I'd ask.

I prefer third person perspective, and past tense. That way you can string it all together and it reads more or less like a book.

I would very much prefer the alternate method of using Artha, as it doesn't force a choice between hoarding and spending. I'm indifferent on the wound penalties issues.

My traveling gear consists of a heavy cloak warm enough to sleep in, a knife for eating and what-have-you, a length of cord (maybe ten feet or so), a waterskin, some stale bread and cheese, a minor holy artifact (like the equivilent of rosary beads; something to pray with), a case for my writing stuff, a sack, a stout walking stick, and flint and steel.

Phillip is thin, with drawn out looks and a bird's nest of dirty blonde hair. He tends to walk around hunched over, with darting looks around. When he speaks, he is quick and practiced with his tales of travel, and brings up a friendly smile that you can almost believe, except he never seems to look you in the eye, but instead stay focused on something just over your shoulder. He has the air of someone nervous and afraid who's trying to act happy and carefree. Sometimes he can pull it off, and sometimes he can't.

Thimas is a giant of man. He stands over 6’8” and weighs well upwards of 300 pounds. Most of that is muscle but a lot of it has turned to fat with both age and the relatively sedentary life of a fisherman (relative to a farmer that is.) His hair is wispy and gray and his skin is the dark tan of someone who has spent their life in the sun. His hands, feet, elbows and knees are heavily calloused and his knuckles show signs of having been broken at least once each. His brown eyes still contain a sparkle of mischief.
He wears simple yet sturdy burlap pants secured with a length of rope and a heavy cloth shirt. He has open toed sandals on his feet. He carries a net sack that contains an oiled cloth for keeping things dry that he uses as a blanket. He also has a small metal plate that he uses both to cook on and to eat off of and a few wooden utensils. He had been meaning to replace his old chipped knife before embarking but never got around to and so he still uses it. His fishing gear includes hooks, lines, one good cane rod, a bait net and a larger fish net as well as a beat up old crab pot.

Jherak is of average height and slim of build. He has sandy brown hair and brown eyes. His hair is cropped short but is beginning to grow out. He has numerous scars, although most are barely noticeable. Although he is friendly and sociable, his eyes are often on the surrounding terrain. He wears leather armor of fine make, and carries a sword and large dagger on opposite hips. The sword is a bit short and of odd design that matches the dagger.

Armor: Superior leather. Usually wears jacket, leggings and boots. He also has a helmet, mask and gloves that he can don quickly should the need arise and he has enough warning.

Weapons: Superior sword and dagger (used for parrying).

Traveling gear: cloak, backpack, bedroll, waterskin, flint & steel, army kit eating utensils, a couple of changes of clothes, cleaning materials for weapons/armor, short length of rope (10’).

Best get this Description in now then. :)

Hob Gadling stands about 5' 10" with deep chestnut hair short to his head and dark eyes. He dress simply in white shirts with black pants and strudy boots, slipping on quilted mail and his knives if there were signs of trouble. He has a ready laugh and a likable nature. Aboard he was the one you tended to go to in the crew when you needed something for it was apparent that he would get it done for you unlike some of the others.

He always has a weather eye out scanning the horizon for what might come next.

Travelling gear: Cloak, backpack, Bedroll, wineskin, flint and steel, whetstone, ball of cord, 4 candles, 2 days of ship's rations, metal pot, wooden spoon.
