Clan Burner - who takes the belief?

Hi!

During Clan Burning, when it states "Take X as a belief". Who takes X as a belief? All of the characters? 1 character? Any number of characters whose players are particularly interested?

Similar question about Affiliations, Resources etc. Also, are the affiliations/Resources/Relationships free? If not, what happens if you can't afford to pay for them?

Depends on the question... Let's take the Family and Clan Burner, pg 58.

Under Family, you should consider all of the questions. Then take an affiliation. This is for each player. (Many characters will get a 1d affiliation free from a trait that would count for this, either Buke or a clan trait or whatever.)

Under Allies, consider the options, pick one or several, then take a relationship that's appropriate to one of your choices. This should also be every player, I think.

Under Needs, answer the questions. Then, either take a belief, or don't buy something, or both. Note that several of the questions here can be reasonably answered with "no," unlike those under Allies, for instance. Your family does have allies, so you must take that relationship, but it may in fact not have any material needs, or it may be poor but powerful in spirit.

At the end of this, you will have one affiliation, three relationships, a resource, and either one or two beliefs. Provincial Warrior characters get a free affiliation, Imperial Court ones a free relationship. Assuming you're a bushi, you get a free affiliation, at least one and possibly all three of your relationships will be family, and one of them is an enemy, so that's 5pts times 3 relationships is 15, minus 2 for family, minus 2 for enemy puts you at 11, plus you need to buy a resource, which could be anything really. You can get that done with your starting 15pts from your Born LP if you're cheap about resources and don't need shoes.

Edit: If you really want to cheapskate on it, here goes:

I am a bushi. I use the 1d affiliation from the Buke trait on my clan. I buy a relationship with an ally, my betrothed, from the clan two valleys over. She's a younger daughter. 5pts, -2 for romantic love. I buy a relationship with an enemy, my hated cousin Sato, from the other branch of my family in the next valley. 5pts, -1 for distant family, -2 for hatred. I buy a family relationship, my black sheep of an older brother, who is now a travelling carnie, showing off his swordsmanship for filthy lucre. 5pts, -2 for close family, -2 for illicit. I've now spent 3 on the first, 2 on the second, and 1 on the third for a total of 6pts. My family has only a narrow, rocky valley but our weaving is the finest. 5pts for silk kimono, no land or real estate bought (11pts). Clothes, gear, and sandals round me out to 14pts. I still have one point left from my Born lifepath, and I can spend every other RP I get in character burning on sweet, sweet steel!
