Increasing stats

Just a quick question. I'm sure this is listed somewhere and I've overlooked it. If you don't use 'Routine' tests to advance stats, then what do you do for the advances that require 'Routine' tests?

In other words, if it takes 3 Routine challenges and 1 Difficult (for example...I don't have the book handy) to increase a stat, what do you do?

You only need the Difficult and Challenging test requirements. Routines are just ignored.

Ah. Okay. So, it's actually easier to raise stats than skills?

One would think. We went back and forth with this a lot during development.

However, it's actually harder to raise an ability that requires both Difficult and Challenging and ignores Routines.

Remember, it's not an either/or situation with Diffs and Challs with stats. For every stat level you must have a test at greater than your exponent in order to advance.
