hi there
I've purchased BW recently and I am absolutely delighted with the reading.
I appreciate very much the lifepath concept and the simple traits/beliefs/instincts system that helps flesh out a PC.
However I have a problem with the Fight ! rules. Actually I don't but my gaming group may have. I have 1 or 2 players that are still unable to get a grip of the d20 core system, so figure it out waht ould happen with martial rules of BW.
I find the simple vs. test too fast and too dependent on luck for such life/death situations and I've heard that people use streamlined combat rules...
any idea of where I could find this stuff ?
thx
Udo

Never heard of such a thing, sorry!
I've found that most people can grasp the Fight! system pretty quickly if they have someone to walk them through it the first few times. Ask someone who knows what's going on to help the other guys with scripting and it should be pretty smooth.

Star off without positioning or stances, just scripted actions. Presume everyone is at optimal. After they get down with that, bring in positioning. Once that's absorbed in, bring in stances.

Stormsweeper's advice is right on. Fight can seem a bit intimidating at first. But, so can the whole of BW. In fact, his advice is applicable in the more general sense of learning all of BW. Start off with the basics, and as you get more comfortable start adding more things in.
I think you'll find it's easier to pick up than you might think after an initial read-through of the rules.
Good luck!
I'd also recommend running some practice Fight!s. Grab some of the PCs from one of the demo adventures on the wiki, or use some of the burned rogues from the BW brown book.
Don't forget to grab the Fight! scripting sheets from the wiki, too.
Aside: Scripted combat is really not as hard as it looks; I think it's actually easier than combat in D&D, as there are dramatically fewer special cases and exceptions. Fight! simply reads as intimidating. In play, it's a cinch.

If you can play a D&D 3e fight with 7th level characters, Fight! is a cakewalk.
It just looks a little intimidating when read.
