Page 144, so long I succeed, can I keep making more tests, so I could add more traits/remove more beliefs/instincts?
Also, the last line is unclear: does failure mean I will not be able to take him to Evocation, or however low I got him (which supports the multiple tests reading), is as low as he'd get, and I have no option but to take him as is to Evocation now?
Ok, decided to add an Evocation question: You have to kill your target, which seems to require inflicting a heavy penalty wound on your servant. Seems a bit odd, why would I bother if my slave is going to have all of his stats very very low?

It's one test, you can spend any extra successes from that test on the other traits.
And if you fail, you can't move on to Evocation. "He may not be brought
further down the path to evocation." I'm not sure it could have been any clearer.
In general, you can't keep testing something in Burning Wheel because of the Let it Ride rule.

Well, "Mortal Wound" doesn't have any penalty associated with it, except, you know, being mortally wounded and on the edge of death. So I read it that if you could one-shot kill them, they'd have no penalties. Of course, being one pip off of one-shot killing them means they're at a -4D penalty for the Traumatic Wound.
I could be totally wrong, though... especially since I've only read the evocation section once and could have missed or misread something.

I'm not following you. A penalty-based wound does not need to be inflicted for this test.

But it's very likely to, since you're going to kill them.

You can kill someone without hacking them to bits. That's what restraints (or minions) are for.
Bring me the Pillow of Death! you know, the one with Hello Kitty on it.
