Hi all,

Abzu's Open Letter redirected me to the Under a Serpent Sun setting. I downloaded it a time before I decided to purchase BW. As I skimmed just a little bit I realized of some references to At the Gates songs. Yesterday I re-read it and found it full of ATG references and I began thinking that Luke must had been on an ATG fever or something (yes, at the moment I failed to notice that Drozdal had something to do with the setting, sorry). The final notes confirmed what I was thinking, except for the fact that the was intentionally based on At the Gates lyrics  . I find the setting pretty awesome. The idea of making a setting, or at least a mini campaign, out of a music band is something that has crossed my mind now and then (but based on Paradise Lost and My Dying Bride) but never had the bravery necessary to try it. After reading Under a Serpent Sun makes me feel ashamed.
Now, I want so badly to play Under a Serpent Sun... I'd probably try to convince my playing group to try BW with this setting instead of a medieval one.

Anyways, has anyone played with this setting? anymore thoughts about it?

Hi Melmoth,

I don't think anyone has yet dared undertake Serpent Sun. I've been half-heartedly trying to get a game together, but I just don't have the time.

Dro and I did create about 8 characters the other die designed to be used for a BW/SS demo/con game. A very ugly, brutal con game I might add.

And I made up character sheets for the setting as well. I suppose I should post them...

Hey Melmoth
I'm glad that you've enjoyed stuff in Serpent Sun.

Yes we based setting on AtG lyrics as a reference - but there are several other references to different bands that were created after AtG broke up (mainly Lock Up and The Haunted - coz we are such suckers for Thomas Lindberg and Björler brothers).

I haven't listened to Paradise Lost for several years now, and bo not mention MDB around Abzu , but I still think that they are awesome band.

Consider yourself warned - SUICIDE is a integral part of the game, and some players could not be ok with that (especially when they PC's will be forced to thake this final step) it will happen sooner or later but it will... .

As for setting based on other band's music - try to get to the core of their message, focus on that, develop you own specific mechanics (spiritual attributes could be too time consuming and mind blowing, maybe use stuff inside Monster Burner to create your specific races/magic systems?). I'm willing to help, but that was your idea and You're the one who have to develop core of this/those settings.

Well, the project of making a setting or at least a long scenario based on some band's music was sealed away and forgotten a time ago. Maybe someday when I have more time, will and a group of gamers who enjoy playing more than twice o thrice a year I'll think about it again. Thank you for your comments about how to begin with it though. :)

And the fact that suicide is an integral part of the setting in Under a Serpent Sun rulz. Never thought I would read somethins so bleak in an rpg setting (and I'm a prideful owner of a Kult exemplar)

Forgive me if this should be obvious, but I'm new to the site: What is the Under the Serpent Sun setting? Is there somewhere I can go to read about it?
