How difficult is Spiel de Essen, for English speakers? Not that I'm going to go, but sometime in the future I'd like to.

Well, I don't know about the officials, but each year there are several English publishers, and I don't think they have too big of a problem. Obviously, not everybody speaks English, or good English, even, but there's still a large percentage who does, and people at the next booth over will also be helpful. I mean, I'd probably help out for a day or so at a BW booth, too.

But if you want, I could ask around this year and find out how big a problem it is. I know that it's a huge fair, and despite some people in costume, it is still very different from a con, at least from the small cons I've been to.

Edit: Two years ago there was also a small booth for indie games where German guys showed their games, but also Forge games. Those would obviously also help out. Last year, they weren't there, however.

I just want to make sure, as I can't tell from your post, but I've got nothing to do with Burning Wheel.

If you just want to come as a customer, I don't think you'll have many problems. Many of the games there are in English, and of the others, many of the booth people speak English. And if you advertise your coming beforehand, I'm sure there'll be someone around to give you a few pointers.
