Born into a peasant family in a small town, James was apprenticed to a carpenter and the age of 10. THere he learned to work with with some degree of skill. It was also during this time he learned of a connection with he gods. They seemed to lead him to places and situations he would not otherwise have encountered. At the age of 17 he became an acolyte with the village priest, starting off by doing repair work for the shrine and the priest's home.

At the age of 24 it was decided that he would become an itinerant monk. Which life began with a year of training and preparation at the Temple. With that done young James set off on his journeys.

For the next six years he wandered the land, learned how to beg (which serves him well when soliciting assistance with the shrine), how to use a staff in defense, and the tending of injuries.

Then came word from the Temple that his mentor, the village priest, was retiring, and had suggested him as his replacement. So it was back to the Temple for instruction and preparation, then on to his new duties.

For the last 8 years James has been the village priest, tending the shrine, making the sacrifices, soliciting help from the neighbors when necessary, andf using his carpentry skills to maintain the shrine. Between gifts, donations, and his carpentry work (probably better known as a carpenter than a priest in some circles) he lives comfortably.

Has never pulled off a miracle, but is certain that one day he will. It's all in the hands of the gods. (Actually, he was granted a miracle once. But, he was treating a gash at the time, and the miracle asked for was that the wound heal swiftly. Which it did. But, he wasn't here to witness this miracle, and so has no idea it happened.)

Neat character!

Does the +1 after a skill exponent reflect a FoRK or is the +1 what you added to the root? If it was the Root, then simply right the total and not plus one. You see, I am a dolt and I get confused easily. Also, I would rule that Begging is a Will based Skill - a pathetic persuasion, if you will.

Great BITS, though! :D

The +1 would be the FoRK. Yes, I use the FoRKs, Luke. The begging helps him get assistance with the shrine. Such as when it needs new paint, a bit of cleaning up, that sort of thing. The carpentry he takes care of himself. I made Perception the root attribute on the grounds a good eye for people helps when soliciting funds etc.

As a rule, all Social Skills are based off of the Will Stat. Haggling, Persuasion, Seduction, all of them. Begging certainly belongs in this category. Now, a skill to spot easy targets would be more like a Begging-wise or Aura Reading.

They are? I though it was pretty much open, if the skill didn't have a root specified. So long as one can come up with a plausible rationale.

Begging as a STR skill.

"Let's see, your STR is a W9. Of course he has some spare change on him."
