HI!

Having read thru the "Blossoms are Falling", I have been scared enough about real historical continuity issues to be contemplating the "Sci-Fi Nihon" option: take the setting as written, but transposing it entirely to the 33rd (or sufficiently far in the future) century; adapting it to a "Sci-Fantasy" frame.

What do you think? Any suggestions? The variou Kami/Onis could end up being aliens without much effort, methinks...

Thanks

Blossoms just arrived to my FLGS and I am thinking about whether to get it or not. If the shop still have it on stock, I am afraid that I will fall for it as I have all the other Burning X products (I got Jihad as a PDF back then).

So, without actually knowing the product I would say, why not? That sort of stuff worked for Fading Suns (and WH:40K). Still, I would add some hi-tech arms, armor etc. even if the setting would not leave Earth (or our Solar system).

If you are thinking about doing that sort of campaign, I would suggest getting Liz Williams' "Banner of Souls". I am reading the book at the moment and funnily enough there is kami mentioned...

HELLO!

Thanks for the advice, Ikirouta-san. What's "Banner of Souls" about?

One of Spectra's most imaginative and talented authors now takes us on a phantasmagoric journey into a strange future fueled by haunt-tech: a technology which works by harnessing energy from of the realm of the dead. But who are the mysterious race known as the Kami who brought haunt-tech to earth? Saviors from another world, or something else entirely? And how does the child named Lunae who can manipulate time with a thought fit into the puzzle? It is up to the Martian warrior Dreams-of-War to answer these questions before life as she knows it comes to an end.

It is quite hard to describe, so I hope this text from the back of the book is good enough :)

Hmm... never saw that one (I presume it is a movie).

Now that I have finished the book I can describe it a bit more.

It has a very martial warrior culture that dominates Mars (and to a great extent the Earth). There are ghosts, weird tech and lots of genetic manipulation. I don't write more in case someone wants to read it (and I definitely recommend it).

As an after thought I am not sure how much of the book is applicable to "future Blossoms". I think that there is somewhere in the net an article where L5R is ported to future. I don't have the link but that might help you more.
