I have a group of players that are D20 only type guys and I would like to Wheelify d20 or slowly move them over from d20 to the wheel so I need some suggestions. Has anyone thought of how the d20 combat system could be modified to use some of the BW ideas (scripting etc.) One thing I think that would have to go in d20 is the MINIATURE rules for combat. I like the way BW is more personal and imaginative than tactical. However d20 characters have all sorts of 'feats' that are basically only used in the miniature combat system. Maybe these feats could be used as 'call on traits' or something.

You are right in that Feats definitely can be mimicked with Traits. Share some sample Feats and I will help translate them.
I think that Stats can be converted easily by dividing the D+D stat by 3. Then give yourself 1 bonus stat point per level of the character. This will give you a nice pool which you can then divvy up into BW Stats.
Gear translates very easily, even the magic shtuff. For instance, a D+D +1 sword equals a BW weapon of Superior Quality. More plusses gain you better VA, Power, Speed, or Add.
As for combat, that's the reason why we switched from D+D. Well, that and the irritation of HPs and XPs. How to create a scripted D+D combat? I have noooo idea. I was converted to BW straight from AD+D 2nd E!
it doesn't have any feats, but this (http://www.burningwheel.org/html/modules.php?op=modload&name=Downloads&file=index&req=viewdownload&cid=2) might help.
more on this in a bit.
So, whore that I am, i've actually thought a good bit about doing a BW d20 version.
Advancement would translate. Scripting would translate. Wounds would translate.
However, there is a major hurdle. With die pools, you can easily have a degree of success available to the players:
I got five successes, he got three. Two get through and I take an Incidental hit.
Or, "I allocate five successes to area of effect and two to the power of the spell."
Or dividing your dice for a counterstrike or a shield's block and strike.
Tough to do.
Personally, I don't like the "I rolled a 16, I needed an 11. 5 more than I needed" mechanics. They are cumbersome (to me), and it's not easy to allocate your success.
So for me, that's the deal breaker. BW is really designed to run with a die pool. The single die mechanic is hard to translate and, well, just too random for my tastes.

In Confrontation, (a mini game I picked up a Gencon) you have a dice pool depending on how many ppl you are in combat with/bonuses/etc.. with this die pool you have to assign attack and defence dice depending on your style.
My suggeston is make it similar with the fact that I would say have 7 dice. I would then put maybe 4 into attack and 3 defence dice depending on the crcumstances..
