This character is a pre-gen character for a BW event I'm running at NC Gameday on 9/25.
Jak Tarn was the 3rd child born to woodcutter Waelliam Tarn and his wife Kaerrie at the main lumbering camp on the eastern edge of the Gray Oak Forest. An ordinary child in most respects, one would imagine he would go on and become a lumber cutter like his father and his father’s father before him. Indeed, Jak’s early years were no different than any of the boys he grew up with. He spent much of his time helping with the chores of lumbering, learning even early on the trade of his forbears, and also hunting for game in the forest. Lumbering was no way to make it rich, and every copper penny needed to be saved.
But Jak was noteworthy in 3 respects. He had a deserved reputation for being the luckiest person in the world. He always won at games of chance, and he had a knack for being in the right place at the right time.
Secondly, Jak was acknowledged as the best shot in the camp with a bow. He consistently out-shot everybody else in archery contests held at the camp. And what people really couldn’t figure is how he did it using a rickety old bow that looked like it was going to snap in two any second. People knew his archery was talent. But using that bow was pure luck.
But what Jak was most known for was his dreams. Jak had dreams that inevitably came true. No one thought too much of this at first, people just assumed he made “lucky” predictions. But as time went by, and Jak shared more and more of his dreams which invariably came to pass, people began to wonder.
Then people grew suspicious. In their fear, some people began to whisper that he was possessed by a Demon of the Darkness or had made a pact with the Lord of the Abyss. Some folks actively shunned him while most just kept a polite distance. Only his closest friends and family showed no fear, if not a little wonder.
One day after a particularly inauspicious dream, Jak’s father knew that his son might one day meet with an “accident”. He didn’t believe anyone in camp was truly evil, but he knew what fear could do. Waelliam sent Jak to stay with his uncle Aelton, gardener at the Imperial Church in Graymoor proper.
Aelton and Jak get along well, and Jak is enjoying the sights and sounds of living in town. He also likes getting away from his “Lucky Jak” reputation. Jak doesn’t have much of a knack for gardening, so Aelton sends him throughout the province, both as a messenger for the church and to search for rare herbs and flowers for the impressive church garden. Jak knows the countryside as well as any in the province having traveled from the Daerring River to the Haunted Pass and from Daendervile to the Graymoor Notch many times. (author note: there is a map of the province for the adventure)
Jak is young, tall and athletic. He has blond hair and green eyes.
