Luke,
I was curious on how you chose the name Abzu?
Same goes for all you other Posters out there.
Me I got mine back in high school a long time ago in a town far far away.
Oh well.
Leave your feedback after the beep..
BEEP!
Hey Gumby,
My name is a derivation of the Babylonian name apsu. In Babylonian, it means "sweet water". Apsu was the ocean depths, and the ocean that lay beneath the earth. He was also the god of the underworld and Tiamat's consort.
All that's from Joe Campbell.
He also figures prominently in death metal mythology, particularly in the Morbid Angel song, Thy Kingdom Come: "..storm upon the abzu....
Both of these inspirations lead me to use him as one of the four dieties in my campaign with Kublai. There, he was transformed from the sweet water to the lake of fire -- hell took on zoroastrian terms in this new campaign, water became fire.
The religion of Fire in our game states that it is Abzu's wings which are the ocean of fire in hell. In that ocean, sinners pay for their transgressions.
Abzu's Wheel is the Wheel of Fire, aka The Burning Wheel.
I thought it would twink Kublai/Pete if I chose that as my handle.
and that's my story.

wow, that's rwally interesting.
My name came to be when I registered on newgrounds.com
freakazoid was already taken about 12 times with all kind of different variations, so I thought and ended up combining Maniac with Crack.
Seemes liek a good idea then, don't know where it came from, and, so people would recognize me, i used it again on every single forum there after.
Mine's not quite as good as luke's.

Mine comes from a long-running Shadowrun campaign set in New Orleans. My character was a detective that was busted off the force in NY and moved to New Orleans to work with his cousin who had recently been released from prison. My character earned a reputation for pulling jobs with very small crews and doing it discreetly - so they nicknamed him "Warlock" The aforementioned cousin was affectionately referred to as "The Fox" for his craftiness."
A year into the campaign, Fox's player left our lives over real-life issues and Fox got busted back into prison, and there went crazy from the anti-magic sedation meds.
The tattoo on Warlock's arm is a stylized fox ahead laid over a big leather bound book: The Fox and Warlock.
Mine is a junior high character that I thought, years ago when I first logged onto a gaming forum, would be easy to type.
If I had known that it would be my first introduction to so many people I would have just written my damned name.
For a while, before my copy of BW arrived, I thought Abzu was an Indian man who designed RPG's.
Despite knowing that BW's designer and writer was named Luke, some little part of me still expected Luke to be an Indian man when I met him this year at Gen Con.

Mine comes from the time I made my first mail account. It happens that I was reading Melmoth the Wanderer.
There's another reference to Abzu in the black metal scene. There's a band called Absu, I think they are from Texas.

I'm a sad rip off from Shadowrun. A poorly loved or respected megacorp.
Man, I'm a geek. Mean and non-dorky looking, but a geek nonetheless.

Mine comes from a fixer I ran in an online Shadowrun game. I created a free e-mail account for that persona for personalized messages in game, and kept the account even after the game died. After that, I just kept it.

Mine's an ancient BBS handle. Like a couple of decades.

Verrain was a character in the War of Light and Shadow series by Janny Wurtz. He has been an apprentice sorcerer for centuries. As a fifth year grad student, I could sympathize. :)
