Looking through the skill lists, I noticed the magical skill "automata" and it got me thinking--wouldn't this be a logical kind of magical skill for dwarves to have, given the general "magical craftsmanship" theme of their unique abilities? So I'm thinking of working out a Dwarven lifepath called "Automator." It would be under the Artificer setting, and pretty closely patterned after the other more advanced artificer lifepaths (probably based on Master of Forges--75 years, 5 skill points, first skill=Automata, with several other skills useful to automaton crafting). I'll post the full info when I'm done, but what does everyone think of the concept?

Hey LeftWingPenguin,

I say go ahead and post it in the Character Burner section. It sounds like it could be very cool.

The problem, of course, is that the Automata rules don't exist yet, so you'll be forging out into trackless terrain on your own. However, you might get some great inspiration from Viper's work on his steampunk campaign, Dockside.

Here are the Steampunk Tinker (http://www.burningwheel.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=646&highlight=) rules he's come up with, and they could easily be transitioned into regular automata.

Also, check out the Automaton Trait (http://www.burningwheel.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=692&highlight=) he worked up! Just in case you have a player that wants to play an Automaton, or want to throw a clockwork monster at them.
