Ok I knew about it from quite some time, but found offical press release today:
http://www.greenronin.com/press_releases/?id=games_workshop
Main rulebook will be published somewhere in january 2005. Game is being developed By Green Ronin, and published by Black Industries (part of GW responsible for RPG's). I read two cool interviews in newest Warpstone (best WHRPG zine around) one was with head of GR Chris Pramas, second one with guy from BI. They said that game will remain gritty and dark just as original, rules will be updated lot of nonsence kicked out. Most important thing is that that they do not have blindly follow Warhammer Battle storyline, which is changing with each new sourcebook hitting stores. Also they want to publish around 8 sourcebooks first year (bestiary, and new three-part campaign in empire about chaos invasion should be first ones). That's all i know for now. I just can't wait to see actual book

Pure speculation on my part, but fear not there is the D20 to BW conversion, and then there is the great work found here (http://www.burningwheel.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=568) by SirEktar.

Um...rein it in there bucko. According to Black Industries' FAQ (http://www.blackindustries.com/faq.htm):
3./ Will WFRP 2 be a D20, or OGL game?
No. WFRP 2 will use a revised and updated version of the original WFRP rules that takes into account feedback from 20 years of active gaming!
4./ Why Not D20?
There are a number of reasons why we decided not to base WFRP 2 on the D20 license.
Firstly, and most importantly, there is a strong active community of WFRP players out there, and we wanted to give them an updated version of the system they love, taking into account their feedback and experience, rather than inflict a completely new set of mechanics on them.
Secondly, we believe that the system we have in WFRP represents a better fit with the Warhammer world than D20. That’s not to say we think D20 is a bad system (we think it’s great !), we just believe that in this instance, the system we have is more suitable.

Yeah. Totally rocks! Are they updating the setting to match up with the crap going on with the Minatures? Wasn't some town leveled (Not Mordheim but Mairenburg comes to mind) in the Storm of Chaos (I think that's the name)?

Hard to say. Although Dro pointed out that in the interviews in Warpstone they noted that they will not blindly follow the storyline in the Warhammer Battles storyline.

Several towns were levelled, but there was just a major chaos incursion and it failed to burn the big target, Middheim so it will be exiting to see what the outcome is going to be.
And thanks Thor, you put me at ease there.
No sweat. I'm sure they'll do a good job of it. 8)

I didin't mentioned that but they also got WH 40K RPG license.
It seems that the rulebook and couple of first supplements will focus mainly on Empire, then after year of two they will expand to Border Princess and Brettonia.
And now some quotes from Warpstone interview:
Chris Parmas on D20:
"Well I have spent last five or six years working with the d20 rules. Honestly though, the d20 influence is mostly negative. By which i mean that certain parts of d20 System increasingly drove me crazy the more i worked with it, and i've been determined to keep those things out of WFRP. I think that D&D way became more complicated than it needed to be with 3rd edition, which had led me to try to make WFRP2 a simple yet robust system."
and on that what will be fixed in new edition:
" The core system is a good one but it has been long time since the first edition. A lot of my work is simpliyfying, clarifying and streamlining. The three "big issues" were long term character advencement ,the magic system, and the old chestnut "naked dwarf syndrome". I've addressed the first and the third of those already, and i'll be sorting the magic system next. There were also some rules that seemed to be there because they were in AD&D, like alignment and class. Those were just tossed"

So it isn't so much of a 2nd Edition in the vein of DnD but rather a completely new rule set? Not that I'm complaining mind you. I just want a Kislev centered book...

It'll also be pretty cool if they update and publish the old modules, like Shadows over Bogenhafen, Death on the Reik, etc.

It's very unlikely that they will redo old stuff. Hoghshead updated and released almost all of the older modules and campaigns (and they also did couple of the new ones like Marienburg - which is an amazing supplement) From what I've heard conversion from first to second edition will not be a problem (since system will remain the same with minor changes) so we can visit Drachenfels again :) . Green Ronin will focus on releasing new material - and that's a good thing, I really do not want to see Shadows over Bogenhafen or Death on Reik updated and published once again, we need some fresh stuff dammit!

It's just that i never got to play through the entire six-part adventure that had those modules with the people I used to play WFRP with... I don't think we got past Death on the Reik. Still, though, I agree that new stuff would be great.
