Hello folks. This is a question for those of you that have played or GM:ed BW for a long time now. I was wondering how far the player characters have progressed on a numerical level? I mean, I know what kind of exponents to expect from a beginner character, but what does it look like after a year of intensive gaming? This will all differ between campaigns of course, but all answers are appreciated.

At work so this will be brief. After a year of intense conflict one of my players character Liam the Ranger is just a few more artha from grey scaling his B7 bow skill. This skill begun at B5 and has through hard work and much danger risen to its current level.

on another note Liam has become a father and is considered for retirement (it dosen't help that his player has belived Liam dead at least twice the last three sessions - once because of a contest based on Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and the other time because he got stabbed by a morgul dagger and its poison nearly turned his will to the shadow.

Got to check my notes to see the others, but the PC known as Joshua has the largest growth (from lowly thief to master ranger ad noble, much to his chagrin).

I would love to tell you about my character whom I've played since BW wasn't even BW. However, since he was the victim of constant rules changes, it's hard to judge where he'd be if I began him using the current rules set.

Instead, I'll tell you about another player's character. He began as a 3 LP bandit (Born Peasant, Farmer, Bandit) with a few skills including a B3 Sword skill and a B2 Farming. "Fresh off the farm," he would say.

After a couple of years of playing him in sporadic bursts (sometimes we would go a couple of months without playing the campaign he was in), he is now a fierce and highly-skilled character. His B6 Sword is a couple points of Artha shy from Greying out and he has become an expert in Takeshi-do and learnt many of its special manouvers. He has also become a Master in Oratory, Stealthy, Inconspicuos, Falsehood, and soo many other skills. I am really impressed with the growth made possible with the system.

Angaros,

I haven't really been playing Burning Wheel for a full year yet but we have a group that meets almost every Sunday. I put my character up in the Wheel of Life when I first burned him and post the changes at the end of each of the chapters in our campaign (2 so far). Chapters are usually 6 -7 sessions - just so you get an idea of how many hours the changes equate to.

Here's the link for him:

Just to add a correction.

Liam the ranger has a G8 bow skill. From B5. *sigh* hangs with head. This combined with B7 stealth and B6 tracking makes him dangerous in the wilds, hopless in the city.

Yet the party's killer is the unambitiou thief Joshua, who has gone from B3 knives to B5 and loves to get in close and personal (he even asked if he could get inside on a Dragon.)

Thene there is Tengel with a B7 sword skill, and Locklear who has become a pile of ash.

In a months time or so we run the same campaign for a year.
