I seem to remember some discussion awhile ago about Dark Elves. It was something about changing Grief to Spite. Can anybody refresh my memory?

I'm running Dark Elves a bit differently. Night Elves more than Dark, nocturnal dark skinned but not evil. I like keeping the Orcs as pollar opposites to Elves.
Long ago the Elves who could not bear the Grief turned that sorrow into rage. With the help of a few evil gods they transformed themselves into the antithesis of they once were... thus the Great Ones of the Great and Black were born.

Can they have groovy knives instead of groove knives? Because that would be a lot more fun.

In my campaign (just starting tonight!) I'm doing a variation on Dark Elves (not having access to the PDF yet)
I had been thinking, what happens to an Elf when their Grief reaches its limit? In my world (a Brothers Grimm meets Ravenloft world, covered in a single vast forest), they leave everything behind and walk the Labyrinth to the Heart of the Wood, to sacrifice themselves upon the World Tree.
But what if they don't? They never learned the final ritual, or can't make that final pilgrimage? They sleep more and more, until Winter comes, and they fall into a slumber that lasts until the solstice, the longest night of the year, which is when they wake up...
...as an Orc. They have no memory of their former lives -- only flashes that come to torment them in dreams.
The elves that know this keep it a secret from most, even those tasked with hunting them down. The elves that do know, well, needless to say, its another cause of Grief.
Comments/suggestions?

Just read Mike Ravenwood's comment. Great minds think alike.
