Hi, this is a char for paka's fantsay library thread (http://burningwheel.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=765).

all right, here is a concept i cam up with:

Mater Verdorth was certainly weird, but not insane, though many people calle dhim that. It was years ago that he had discoverd the ancient text that told of the banishment of great evil. From the texts, Verdorth derived quickly that this evil was not banished forever and bound to return at some point. From that moment one his career took a turn. He preached of the chaos this evil would bring and tried to convince his colleages to help him fight it. But no one belived him.
Only his young apprentice, who had always seen Verdorth as a father, stood by him.
Verdorth changed his focus in magic. In his earlier years he was open to all kind of magic and even learned some summoning, but now he only concentrated on order. He learned to summon seraphim, get them to help him in his task. He learned to command the power of the light and the order. To banish demons, turn undead and undo chaos all around him.
His lifestyle also changed, the little messy wizward had transformed into a fanatic of order. Only one thing he was sloppy about: His apprentice.
Verdorth had taught him the basics in magic, and had taught him about the great evil that would come. The apprentice believed all of this, but he thought there must be a different way to deal with the matter.
He believed that raw magic, unformed by spells held the potential to deal with the threat.
In one of his studies, the apprentice once stubbled about a half sinshed abstraction.
He was amazed by the potential and the adaptability this writing held.
H esoon ommitted the conventional techings he could learn and searched out everthing he could learn about abstractions.
His belief was easy: Abstractions held an adabtability that usual spells could not even reach.
Should one know enough facets of this raw power, one could master every situation.

While master Verdorth did certainly not approve entirely of his Apprentice passion, he also did not hold him back. He had alrady taught him the basics, and he strongly belived that his apprentice should learn by himslef.

Master Verdorth travels, since. Looking for hints, clues and information about the threat that's bound to come to this world. His apprentice follows, assists him, does his duties. And through that gains access to some of the oldest libraries there are, studying books for more of this natural form of magic he attempts to master.

Neuex, the apprentice, was born to a noble familiy. However, when his master came out with his prophecies, he fell in dishonor and neuex ha dto prove loyalty to either his family or his master. He choose the later.

Neuex, believes strongly in his master. Even though they have different point of view concerning how to wield magic, they have a common goal and one respects the other.

Seems pretty cool. One thing though: you have Sorcery B7 listed. I believe the highest you can have a skill at character creation is 6. And someone with a 6 is a renowned master.

Also, just a word of warning: building complete spells out of facets in play is incredibly dangerous (summoning angels is perhaps the only type of magic that is more dangerous -- demons are much safer. )

Most Abstractions you'll build from scratch will have incredibly high Obstacles. You have a decent chance of meeting those Obstacles with the actual sorcery roll, but the Tax is going to be a killer (literally).

In my experience, using Facets to alter existing spells is a hell of a lot safer (and that's using the word generously), and probably the most useful way to actually use Facets in play.

yeah, you bring up a good point.
I guess I should test out those things a little.
However, this charackter can't be revised much at the moment, I just have freaking much work.
But as soon as I have time I will roll some abstractions I imagined for this charackter.
One of them is as simple as it is sweet.
"I scatter his mind"
But you are probably right about the tax.
Actally the high obstactles are one reason for the high sorcery skill.
