Kublai, did anything ever come of your 4-lifepath character challenge? Did anyone ever take you up on it?

And finally, would you be interested in some online arena-combat style action?

No, that 4 lifepath challenge never panned out, though an incarnation of it was successful as "Beat Pete!" which we ran at conventions.

The online arena could work, I think. There would definitely be a need for a referee, though. Opponents would PM their scripts to the referee and he would post them simultaneously as well as resolve the dice rolls.

Let's try it after the holidays!

We'll begin with 4 LPs using optional lifepaths and traits from the site.

I don't think we should allow spells or songs to be in effect before combat begins.

We'll also use the new positioning rules, if I can get Luke to share them! They're hella cool.

BW Classic trait rules?

Which armor/wound variants?

Also, I'd recommend limiting it to humans. The non-humans have too much of an advantage, stat-wise.

I think 4 lp humans have no disadvantage to the other races... except for Trolls. Ok, so no trolls but everything else is fine.

Hey jc, you can find beta versions of Wolves, Spiders and Trolls here (http://www.burningwheel.org/html/modules.php?op=modload&name=Downloads&file=index&req=viewdownload&cid=6). For full goodness though, you have to order yourself a copy of the Monster Burner. It is well worth it, as it not only gives you 4 races with full lifepaths and a ton of monsters, it also breaks down the design philosophy of the system and shows you how to build traits, lifepaths, and all sorts of other goodness.

As for starting with Gray Stats/Skills: you can shadeshift a Stat in character burning by spending five stat points on it. You can shadeshift a Skill in character burning by spending five skill points to do it.

Sweet, thanks Thor. I knew that you could shade shift stats and skills just wasn't sure if it was allowed in our little scrap.. this out to be fun.

I'm in. I figure the best way to learn BW combat is to have my ass kicked by the greatest.

I don't know that I'll have time to get to you, but I'll do my best.

This is just trash-talk. I would be destroyed, handily.

So I'm nearing completion of MY incredibly broken combat toon, anyone else? Who is going to moderate this monster throw down?

Yagathai
01-03-2005, 01:25 PM
I nominate abzu, because he doesn't have nearly enough to do.

How broken are folks making these characters? I tried to make mine at least a little rounded, and thus he has points in stuff like Calligraphy and Conspicuous. If we're just going to balls-to-the-wall combat twinks, I'd like to know about it so that I can revamp.

Since the purpose is an arena battle I went almost complete combat. The only non-combat abilities I have are ones required by my lifepaths. I say by all means go crazy.

Kublai
01-03-2005, 06:20 PM
Hmmm... I may have to create an "Arena" forum just for our bouts!

Anyway, you sacks of vomit, this is a combat arena, so leave your twinky librarians at home! Grey stats are fine, but don't whine when your gimp is knocked out right quick. Grey skills are cool, as we don't need no accountant skills sucking up our bashing power.

Any non-participant can be a referee. The way it'll work is for one person to challenge another (I'll post a sticky with all the available participants and their records). Then, both participants PM their character sheet and Volley 1 scripts to an available referee (of whom I will also post a list). The referee will figure out what happens with some dice-rolling on his behalf. Finally, he will post what happened - which can be a creative exercise, but the actual numbers need to be posted as well.

Posters may only have one combatitator at a time. You got to be killed before you are allowed to field a new behemoth.

Sound good?

jc_madden

Deal.

Kaare Berg
01-04-2005, 09:20 AM
behemoth, so trolls are go?

*edited to ask, if not trolls, can you burn mounts?

Yagathai
01-04-2005, 10:11 AM
I would restrict mounted combat to bouts in which both participants agree.

jc_madden
01-04-2005, 02:40 PM
My toon is ready, no mount, pure human.
