Just for clarification, is a weapon with invested Artha magical?
This spell rocks.

I would think that each invested artha may grant you a single reprieve from this spell. After all, we gotta give our heros some break, right?

Break is the word I had in mind, but not the way you meant it.
Thor, while you're at it. How about one that blasts armour?
Imagine the Sword wielding Sorceror in Black Plate wawing a hand while avoiding, and first with a word of power causing his opponent's weapon to crumble, followed by a second gesture and another powerful word, crumbling the chest armour of his foe, before running him through and feasting on his skull.

heh hee! Yeah, Kublai and I had already discussed it. It should work just fine. Just give it another name (Odin's Spiteful Curse, maybe...though that would make a great name for a weapon-breaker too), and you're good to go.
Oh, and for taking out siege weapons? Replace the Minoris Sigil with a Majoris Sigil (Ob +2, Syllables x20), and then drop one of the Minuo Sigils.
You wind up with:
Vulcan's Doom (Ob 5, 20 Actions)
This spell is just sick.
Edit: Oops. Vulcan's Doom should be (Ob 5, 40 Actions). Still sick!
wait wait. Why are all weapons the same? Why is there no successes over? or varying obstacles?
The spell is very cool, but I think you've glossed over a detail or two.
Why not set a "successes over" threshold? Small wooden weapons, 1 success over. small metal weapons, 2 successes. medium-sized metal weapons or long wooden weapons (maces, spears, small swords), 3 successes. long metal weapons (swords, axes), 4 successes.
When fixing the Cap on a spell, you're saying it does one thing, the same way, consistently, every time. Since not all weapons (or armor) are the same, I'm not sure this spell is the right application for the Cap.

Initially, I was going to make it a '^' spell with Will + Successes over Ob compared against Material Tolerances. But then Pete pointed out that you allow Shards to take out Bows and Spear hafts all the time with no additional successes needed. And this spell doesn't do any damage, like Shards does.

No where in the description of Shards does it say it breaks anything.

"With a gesture the sorcerer causes wood or stone to buckle and snap, flinging stining shards into the flesh of the unwary...The spell puts a fist-sized dent in the wood or stone."

i don't see any mechanics for breaking.

You get to be the ultimate judge, of course. But I think we both know that a fist-sized dent breaks a bow or spear.

i do at that. What I was trying to say was that the original wording of the spell was color, and that we added additional effects as house rules. There's no mechanical effect written into the spell for breaking. It's a damaging effect spell who's intent is to hurt soft targets.
And turning all weapons to dust is a bit more than cracking the haft of a bow or spear.
