How much Artha do you go e out n a session? Arch?
Do the players gain Artha as soon as the meet it's requirement? Can you gain a fate every scene as long as yourbeliefs ate drivng it forward? Can you invoke multiple traits persession or multiple instncts?
Thoughts?

This (http://burningwheel.org/forum/showthread.php?t=7868) thread as a lot of really good information.
Right. Per session, per belief, you can get either:
1 Fate point for playing the belief such that it is significant to the events of the session.
1 Persona point for resolving a belief
1 Persona point for violating a belief and playing out the struggle.
So, each session, from Beliefs, you can potentially earn a maximum of:
3 Fate
or 2 Fate, 1 Persona
or 1 Fate, 2 Persona
or 3 Persona
Also, if someone earns Moldbreaker for a particular Belief twice, we generally tell that player he needs to change the Belief. Obviously there might be extenuating circumstances, but it's a good rule of thumb.
Four Beliefs = 4 artha (the character in my game has "loyal")
Three Instincts =3 artha
7 Artha is a SNAP to earn every session, never mind character traits, workhorse, MVP, right skill/right time, humor, etc.
...
Technically, in order to earn fate for an Instinct, you have to use your Instinct to get your character in trouble. "Driving play" is different and more of a Belief-style reward.

In a 1-on-1, been averaging 2 persona and 3-4 fate per session.

We started paying in real-time during our current sesh, but that was leading to some end-of-session confusion. Also, Thor's clarification that you sorta kinda can "touch" each BIT once, artha-profitably, meant we were better off dealing with payouts after each game. Now it's easy to just run down the list and say yea or nay. The one spot where it's a touch complicated is in working out moldbreaker (BIT conflicts played out) moments, and making sure the "winning" BIT didn't get paid twice.
When I bring my A game, I can pull down 7-10 artha total in a session. A more typical draw is like 5 or 6 (3-4 Fate, 1-2 Persona).

I knew I remembered that list posted somewhere. My bad, thanks. So that covers Beliefs and Instincts. Does that go for one Fate each trait as well? Do you guys only award for complications for playing character traits, or all traits? If I play out Cold-Blooded in a scene and it sends the story cool places do I get Fate?
This is all very useful. I picked up a lot of bad habits and relied on old/other versions of the game to play BW so doing yet another reread and hashing out some of the particulars is really enlightening. :)
We usually grant one trait award. I don't think I've ever seen a player use two traits in a session to drive play.

I think the closest we get is when awarding a Persona for Embodiment.

In our Shadakai game, I'm handing out about 2-4 fates, plus 1-2 Persona to each player at the end of each session.

I hide bags of deeds in shops and bars for the characters to find.
(sarscasm!)
I'm probably no help, since I'm answering your question using he game you're in, lol. What have we been averaging... Usually a persona and a couple fate per person, maybe a couple of persona and a couple of fate? There have been a few times where traits have pulled artha...
Typically, I'd say that per player it's 1-3 persona and 2-4 fate, ranging on the higher end of things. It's certainly higher than other BW games I've played.
Granted, I may be a little bit of an artha whore as a GM (give me beer and you shall have fate!), but if the players push and pursue, they deserve it, right?
Now all I need to do it get everyone to stop hording their artha... you know, without making everything Ob 11.

The "other BW games" your referring to had 10 players mostly new to BW. It's amazing any BITs were hit at all. :) no doubt that's improved with fewer players and more experience (especially after threads like this and Thor's magic post).

Now all I need to do it get everyone to stop hording their artha... you know, without making everything Ob 11.Really? That's kinda interesting. I usually have four or five things I want to advanced (because my GMs never enable me to make the damned 7-path guy I *need* in my fantasy escapism!) and so I'm spending Artha like it's tied to the US Dollar.
Maybe you let folks make "too complete" characters... though if it's the same ones in that other thread, then there's some Power and Will needs upping SOON.
And you don't have to go to Ob 11--just their available dice +1. ;)

I can't understand how players hoard in BW. There's nothing to save up for, really. But you've got every motivation to spend Artha. How else are you going to epiphany?

You'd be amazed how well this group does with available dice +1 obs. There have been at least thre challenging rolls that succeeded without Artha.
Start using d4s instead of d6s!
