View Full Version : Burn Me a Magical Silver Torc?
Not sure if this is the right forum for this sort of thing, but here goes.
My PCs were rewarded with a finely engraved silver torc (of Elvish make) for rescuing the remnants of a lowly village of Mud People (pacifistic fishermen who build from.....mud) from an Orc raiding party. The Mud People found the item generations ago on the banks of the great Werra River and awarded it to the party in gratitude.
I would like the item to have some sort of positive low-powered subtle magic ability/effect/enhancement.
Anyone care to throw out some ideas, stat it up, or even give it a bit of back story?
Thanks!
Tim

Activated by speaking the word Glaur whileholding it aloft. Will shed soft golden light in a ten pace circle. The light will then shine until first light. It will then be inert until the next morning.
Forged by the elven smith Galcauntir and given to his son Tondmagor, the Torch was to serve as a memory of the light in the glade where his people lived. Jealous of her brother's gift Silanaeri killed her brother not long after he he set sail down the Werra River. But the arrow knocked teh elven swordsman from his boat and into the deep waters and both elf and torch was carried away.
The guilt ate away as Silanaeri and her grief turned to spite. Soon the hate in her heart consumed her and she set out to find this torch, a haggard white haired wretch she is known among the Mud people of the Werra River as Hufsa. No one knows what she wants, but over the years many a brave youth has been found killed at dawn.
There is nothing more precious than the Torch to her and she will do anything to regain it.
5 minute item and monster. get the monbu and cook the Hufsa up.
Hi Negilent,
Awesome magic torch, and I really like the Isildur/Gollum type backstory. Hufsa will make a great monster and I'll definitely incorporate this into my campaign.
Unfortunately though, I've already handed out a torc:

and not a torch. :)
Thanks,

I believe he has described a torc named Torch.
Or I could be giving him too much credit.
*chuckle*
Ahh! my bad, I missed that it was the capital T Torch and not a torch.

The Llanir, or Silver Torc of Kingship
This silver torc, intricately carved in the shape of a dragon, was a gift from the elven Althing Eldharion to the legendary King Pwydd, chieftain of the Gwyderi who stood with the elven host at the Plunder of Gallanfell. Pwydd went on to become High King and ruled wisely and well before the destruction of his line at the hands of the Red Storm orcish horde at the Battle of Three Rivers. The Llanir was lost, along with the body of High King Gwyddan, last of Pwydd's line.
Effect:
Once per week, the wearer of the torc may use his Will to attempt the following:
* +1D to Oratory or Persuasion, Ob 2.
* +1D Will (applied to Body of Argument or as an obstacle vs social skills), Ob 3.
* +3D to Oratory or Persuasion, Ob 4.
* Open-ended social skill dice, Ob 5.
Actions: 4 x obstacle of the effect
Thor,
I think you just introduced a major element to the overarching plot of my campaign.
The kingdom the campaign is set in is in major turmoil and on the verge of a war of succession. The 3 year-old child king and his mother the regent are being challenged by a very powerful count.
The torc is obviously a major bit of regalia of the ancient high kings and its possession would help solidify the rule of a weak sovereign or lend an air of legitimacy to the claims of the count and his backers. That's not even considering its magical powers :)
THEN there is the PC, Sir Conrad, third son of a minor baron, who wants nothing more than to win land and a name for himself. Might he raise his sights a bit higher if he knew of the nature of the silver torc?
The party have it hidden in a cedar chest in a hut back at Caewin Village I think they intend to sell it when they have the opportunity to travel to more civilised parts of the world.
They have no idea.....
Thanks a million!

Sheesh, and you call THAT subtle? ;)
Sheesh, and you call THAT subtle? ;)
Oh come on, it's just a simple Elven Song woven into a torc using Antiphon Union. :P
It's not like it's actual Enchanting or anything.
