I rented Troy last night. I'd heard some negative things about the dialogue so I was hesitant at first to watch it. My impression: FABULOUS. Dialgue was not what this movie was about. The fight scenes, man! I kept getting yelled by my wife because I kept screaming, "That's what combat back then was really like, this is just like BW!"

I had been looking forward to Troy ever since I saw the previews in the theater (man, the scene with all the ships was just awesome), so I saw it when it first came out. Personally, I loved it. I didn't notice anything bad about the dialogue, I don't know what those people were talking about. I liked how at the end only one arrow was left in Achilles- in his heel. That was a really nice touch. I'm sure that's not what *really* gave rise to the legend of Achilles heel, but it's a nice idea, gives an impression of how crazy legends can arise out of real events.
I haven't been on these boards in over a year, so, hi all! Still trying to get a BW game running... noone wants to run one. :( Soon, soon, I hope. Or maybe I'll have to wait 'till the next Ubercon to play again.

Well skinny if you're looking for a game I'm going to be running my Sci-Fi version of BW here on the boards, you should check it out.
After watching troy I went and looked up some info about the Illiad and it seems they took a lot of liberties with the story and the plot but hey that's what makes it a movie.
HI skinny, welcome back! You should try your hand in the arena...
And JC, you should try reading the Iliad. It's better than the movie. Seriously!
Hard to believe, I know.

A) I have read both the Illiad and the Oddysey it has been damn near 13 years though.
B) I was only pointing out the differences in the two, I had to look it up to jog my memory/confirm my theories.
No, it's not hard to believe that a book might be better than a movie. I personally believe that the Harry Potter books have been WAY better than any of the movies (Prisoner of Azkabahn especially), the same is true of Earthsea, 20K leagues under the sea, The time machine (the new one was garbage the original film was okay), and many many others. My posts concerning movies are only to express my thoughts on the movies they are not a attempt to voice my preference of one for of media or another. As a matter of fact I think I've mentioned recent books I've read just as much as movies.
If you were any more of a smartass your hind quarters would be writing the revision for you. Who knows maybe they are!
PS. loveyoumeanitkthnksbye!

Yeah, I dug Troy. Things actually surprised me and most of the film was gritty and smart. That fight between Hector and Achilles is off the charts tense! :D I was pleasantly surprised.
