My lack of posts this weekend largely due to my new addiction - Star Wars Galaxies, the newest massive multiplayer Online RPG. I was a sporadic Everquest player - I am certain I put more money into EQ than I got out of EQ - but I like the vision and perspectives of Galaxies.

Any SW fan would do well to check this out.

Best of all you can play part-time and still be involved. There is not as much of a rift between experienced characters and new characters. Its not all about the combat (dancers can make a living and gain skills just by dancing, and better yet, play a vital role in the society - healing the mind.

Personally I think this is done very well. Don't worry though, I can't play Galaxies when I'm at work :)

Lol, I bought Galaxies Saturday and have been having a lot of fun with it. I haven't played EQ, but I am a huge Dark Ages of Camelot Player (2 accounts). Which Galaxy do you play on, and what's your avatars name?

I thought those of you who enjoy the new Galaxies game would appreciate this online comic strip from PvP:

In general, I think PvP is really funny and often makes me laugh out loud. <-- like this

Damn I hate when my gaming gets in the way of my gaming...

So much to the chagrin of my Star Wars buddies I have again fallen behind in the power curve and not been on for weeks.

Alas this is what I like about Galaxies - that the power curve is not half as steep as EQ and all one has to do to involve themselves with "lower powered" characters is use a weapon they are not generally familiar with - wallah! they are even (with a little back-up can o'whupass just in case)

see your "hit points" are your stats and they never change!

Let me repeat that... they never change!

You can alter your stats as needed but it takes time to shift. However, like skills, you have a stat pool and that never fluctuates. Sounds dull, I know, but its very cool. There is a lot of dynamicism involved.

You are only allowed one character per server (for non-online game folk a server is how they keep activity from shutting the game down. Out of the 100s of 1000s (thats right over 100,000 total users) each server generally has 2000 + people on it at a time. And servers often develop their own cultures and economies. Its very socially interesting... well to a freak like me)

as I was saying there is only one character per server but you have the option to "forget skills" to give you skill points to puersue another skill path. So you could play for a year one way and with the same character make him/her totally different the next year :) The only thing you can't change is your race (human, wookie, zabrak, bothan, mon calamari, trandoshan, and grebo's race which I always forget the name of). There are even folk that can change your hair, horns, facial marks, etc.

Anyway, I digress... so it turns out that my original post is bogus... instead of posting less and Burning less because of Galaxies, I seem to be playing Galaxies less than Burning. I think that is just part of my personality. I have actually lost gaming buddies to the convenience of EQ :)

good gaming all
