View Full Version : I think the Refs should have some fun.

Occasionally the cruel masters of the Coliseum would pit the condemned or the prize fighters against beasts from the realms. Sometimes these fights were fair, other times not. I propose to let the Ref's get to challenge fighters with NPC baddies, maybe 2 lowly orcs versus one skilled fighter. Maybe fight a lion! What do you think?

That's a cool idea! Right now, I am the only ref that doesn't have a Champion, though. Thor and Yag both have fought in the arena. Nothing is stopping me from doing so, too, but lack of time/inspiration.
Challenging a ref will take trust, of course. Once you do make a challenge, the referee can choose any beastie he'd like. It'll be a fun surprise!

I think you missed the spirit of the post..... the REF challenges the champion! "You're soaking your weary muscles in the baths after a tough fight with a nasty Orc, suddenly your masters throw your armor on you. Time for the lion's lunch boy!"
mwahahaha.
edit I also thought it might increase the number of battles going on by limiting the number of people necessary online. I would trust the ref to be impartial. It would also allow those with less fights under their belts to catch up in terms of Artha and advancement tests....

pffft! So unsubtle. How about giving you guys a REAL challenge, like one little Mischief (that's a tiny butterfly-winged faerie for those of you without the Monster Burner).

I think that's a great idea.
Personally I think we should have a stable and anyone can pick from the stable with a challenge.
I was running an Arena concept for a while... i'll pst some ideas i had for it later on today.

Cool! Yeah I like the stable idea at least that way you have some idea of what you might be up against.
On an aside, I am LOVING the new positioning rules. The thing that excited me about BW's combat was the lack of battle maps/minis. But I found that paces made me want to break out the maps. This new movement system is like Abstractions for fighters! It's very easy to visualize I can't wait to try it out. (nudge, nudge)

I'll give people a week or so to look over the Positioning Rules. Thor and I feel the same way you do about them.

Consider them ABSORBED. By me atleast. Then again I sit at work with all my BW .pdfs open for reference.... hehehe. I love my desk job.

Make sure you read them carefully. I think new players will pick them up easily, but veteran players may stumble a little because the new rules SEEM so similar to the old. Make sure you read ALL the maneuvers, some of them work a bit differently (and there's even a new one hidden in there). Also, you especially should make sure to read the new Gunpowder die rule, since you've used a pistol in the arena already. It works a bit differently now.
Finally, Kublai and I need to discuss this, I suppose, but I think that we WILL NOT implement the Oh F&¢K! Optional Rule, simply because it will slow down the Arena process even more.

Watch it Lashboy, or I'll get you in a Lock and squeeze, like the Tax Collector I am. Unlike Luke, I don't have the Tasting the Lash trait.

No matter who wins, I still have work. It's good to be a gravedigger.
Well, that's a lie. It's bad. It's terrible. My back hurts and my calluses have blisters have calluses have blisters. But at least the work is steady.
