No requirements listed in the Lifepath description on the BW site. Privateer has sailor - does that mean vagabonds and outcasts of all persuasions can simply switch careers to maritime marauding without a lick of sailing knowledge?
Now, I know someone over there at BW central has done all their historical research about pirates - so give me the scoop on the scourge of the seven seas.

It's my opinion that any Sea Faring LP or sailor LP should be able to become a Pirate, but I know Abzu disagrees.

Absolutely! Through the introduction of the belaying pin and the blackjack, many-a-land-lubbers found their way aboard vessels of ill repute. It was just a matter time before they either got their sea legs or they found tehmselves at the wrong end of a cutlass (assuming they weren't washed overboard.
Outcasts were especially wanted since they had no connections. besides, many outcasts might find their anonymity among pirates...a fresh start from a life they may feel is going no where.

Yeah, because according the description provided its a new Lifepath in the Outcast section for the Race of Man. So as long as I get to Outcast set, I can throw an eye patch on and its go time.

Where are you looking? There is no Lead from outcast to seafaring that I could find. Do you have a page number for me?
I just checked the new LoM: Pirates are the Outcast version of Sailors. They have no requirements and Lead into Seafarer, City and Village.
Arr!

Being a pirate is like being a bandit, it doesn't take any special know-how to say "I want to rob people." As a point of reference it has been proven that many pirates didn't even know how to swim. Now being a GOOD pirate? That's another matter entirely.

Born Peasant, Lead to Outcast, Smuggler, Pirate, Pirate. (smuggler twice would net more skill points of course, but then you'd be more smuggler than pirate and we couldn't have that!)
I usually charge for SQ Arms. But I think a certain someone entered the arena with them as part of his normal arms package.

Now we need a ninja lifepath, so we can settle the age-old pirates vs. ninjas debate in the arena.

Easy: Born City (lead to Outcast), Itinerant Performer, Poisoner, Desperate Killer. voila!
