Nay, if you be wantin' to fight me we be doin' it on foot. Besides, I'm thinkin' that we have some new positionin' rules to try out.

Yeah, they look set to solve a bunch of the things that annoyed me about the old ones. I'm looking forward to trying them.
Why is there no killing? Luke needs killing. Killing makes him happy. Happy makes him work on the revision...

But the therapy group leader says that it sets back Abzu's progress when I kill people to make him happy.
But I want to make Abzu happy!
What to do?

Well, I sent him my character, so be prepared to be destroyed by the multitudes of frippery that the elven royalty pleasures itself with!

If your drunkard Dwarf can resist the urge to surrender before...ELVEN MIRROR WINE!
Kevin
02-04-2005, 04:04 PM
Bah. My dwarf is a psychotic bastard who lives for nothing but combat. I even have the instincts to back that up.
And I can assure you that I didn't spend my RPs on frippery...

And I can assure you that I didn't spend my RPs on frippery...Well I didn't spend all of mine of frippery, but I just had too many, especially after ditching my Elven steed, but I think you'll find my assload of weapons and several martial skills to be more than a match for a fat drunkard who rules over 32 acres of (ugly) cave, and whose subjects make fun of behind their back

My subjects overthrew my character because he was obsessed with combat, leaving him with nothing but weapons and armor to console himself with.
I'm serious, here's the background:
A young prince who was deposed due to a result of murderous and violent rages, Snorri seeks vengeance on all who betrayed him--or those who he imagined betrayed him--or anyone, really. His gold and treasure lost with his clan, Snorri now wanders the world preparing to steal and rob what he needs to call together an army to retake his throne.
Beliefs:
Weapons and armor are more precious than gold.
The Gods demand that I wreak vengeance on my enemies.
Strong and wrong is better than weak and right.

Snorri assessed for weaknesses in the elf's armor - PER B6, +1 ob for his helm, +1 ob for closing, +1 ob for elf's cloak and a base ob of 1 is a 4 obstacle action. At double obstacle penalty for acting unskilled that is a obstacle of 8.
Don
I might be wrong but since when you need observation skill to asess? You're testing your perception against fixed OB here, there is no skill involved in it. If Snorii got 6 sucesses that (in my little mind) meant that he got 2 over his OB of 4.
dro, the elf has a Cloak. Cloak counts as Stealthy. Stealthy requires Observation to spot.

Observation is a training skill that teaches the character how to watch a situation for details. This training relies on the character's Perception stat for tests. Characters with Observation do not suffer the double obstacle penalty when trying to spot concealed things, such as Stealthy or Inconspicuous characters.
Sample Obstacles: Stealthy vs Perception, but Perception suffers a double obstacle penalty. To detect a Stealthy person who rolled two successess a searcher would have to roll four successess on his Perception.
It seemed like a no brainer. The elf was trying to hide and using his cloak (and Stealthy) to his advantage. The dwarf had no appropriate skills (like Armorer) to assist him in his endevour. If the elf wasn't trying to hide I might have allowed the glance to see something but as it stood it was a straight-up Observation Training skill test and the dwarf didn't have it.

The Elf is in FRONT of the Dwarf on the small arena - how he could possibly use his stealth skill? Instinct? Or maybe Elven Cloak is an predator armor? I thought that you have to have some kind of cover to use abilites of Elven Cloak, but it seems that i was wrong :x

Elven cloak is like the Threne of the Chameleon -- which acts as magical Stealthy dice. I'm going to check my book at home for Ob penalties to Stealthing in the open, in front of someone, in bright light.

I didin't wanted to be an ass about it, but this just wasn't right, you can't dissapear like that so easily
Stealth penalties:
Bright Light +1 OB
Open Ground +1 OB

let's break this down:
The elf has a +2 Ob pen minimum for Stealthy. (Personally, I'd give the Elf another +1 Ob). If he rolls 5 successes, that counts as 3 against the Dwarf.
So, the Dwarf has a double ob pen against the Stealthy: he'd need 6 total to spot the Elf. Add the helmet and closing pen for a total of Ob 8. (penalties are added after the doubling.)
So according to the numbers, Mr Elfie fades from sight. Now FIGHTING is not Stealthy type behavior. So once he starts with the non-Stealthy things like stabbing or throwing, he's going to fade back into sight.
I'd just let the Elf have a free action and then start the script after that.

I'd rule that the cloak only works when Stealthing. Once he makes an attack or other non-stealthy move he is perfectly visible.

Although this is how the numbers bore out your forgetting two factors here:
Since that was a +3ob penalty (+2 for open and no cover and +1 for his fast movement) to the elf and he starts with an ob of 1 then that is a total obstacle of 4. 5 successes equal one steathy penalty to the dwarf.
Why it came out with the same numbers was you forgot the movement penalty the dwarf suffers for closing as well.
So glad all agree with me - Drozdal agrees that the elf shouldn't just disappear and abzu agrees that this tested observation training as per the rules. That's how it came out. :) Aren't knowing the rules grand?! :)
guys, this thread is broken in the database. I've got to lock it. Eru, please start a new trash-talk thread for your match.
