Yagathai and I are organizing what is turning out to be a little Fight! tournament for 10 10 10. Were interested in how many of youse would like to participate.

In short, most of you probably aren't worthy to Fight! me, so I want to weed out the weak before I deign to unsheathe my sword. Therefore, you will fight amongst yourself until a Champion emerges. That Champion will then challenge me to a one-on-one Fight! to the death.

We'll make it short, probably a single 4-hour session. We're still working out the details, but in order to scope the tourney out, we want to know how many are going to sign up.

Also, there will be fantastic prizes!

To be clear, would this be a "burn your own character based on a set # of LPs and Stat/Skill caps, then Fight!" setup?

Not this time, Dwight. Yag and I will create pre-gens to be approved by Luke. It'll save a lot of time, plus cut down the cheatin' y'all are famous for!

I prefer that, I hate being out-cheated and that could so happen here.

So there will be a roster to pick from? Published prior or at the event?

We'll publish the roster sometime in mid-September. Considering who's creating them, you can bet they'll be plenty of cheatin', but at least they'll all be balanced in some way!

Got what it takes? Seriously?

Dude, my mom could beat you at Fight! She wouldn't even have to ask any questions, so Luke wouldn't even get a Fate point :p

If you're serious about "unsheathing your sword" - LOL, you man-loving colonials - then step up to the plate with something that's actually manly. I'd like to hand you a brutal lesson in playing Jungle Speed! Or crush and demoralise you at SageFight - although having seen the Burning Lord's woeful - Pwnd Lord more like, pitiful! (http://nerdnyc.com/tmp/gencon/16.jpg) - performance at GenCon, I'm not sure any of his moob-milk sucking acolytes are worth getting off the sofa for.

"Fake Pete", when you're ready for a Real Challenge, I'll be waiting with Jungle Speed. Word.

Cheerio
Pete

Now that was some serious trash-talk, yo!

I'm definitely interested.

Hah! None of you will have the glory of beating Pete. As defending champion, you'll all have to get through me before you get to him, and that just ain't going to happen.

::yawn::

That was a great Avoid you scripted, False Pete, but too bad you didn't roll any successes. Take your Jungle Speed wankery over to boardgamegeeks.com where someone might give a damn. I've no time for your distractions.

Now, is there any non-wusses that are interested in this tourney?

I've got something for your Mom to beat, Pete. Just send her over with a six pack and a pizza. She knows the way.

You'd best be coming to the party on Friday night.

Ah, reverting to Mom digs already? Doth the juices dryeth so quickly in thy thick head?

The other Pete. I understand why you would think I was talking about your Mom, but even I have standards.

Ha! A modest retort, admittedly, Dwight.

Hmm...spending a precious time slot to get slaughtered by Fight! masters would not be my first choice, but that's just me. Despite running a few epic, complicated battles, Fight! is my weakest area in BW. It pulls together so many sections (wounds, armor, weapons, etc.) along with the strategy itself, that it's really challenging to feel fully competent with it and even more challenging to try and help my players understand it. I know I'm not the only one.

But I think the Beat Pete challenge is a cool idea too. Would you guys have any interest in using your powers for good and doing a little Fight! workshop at some point? Something beyond simple demos - something to help some of us really get our heads around Fight! and use it fully and WELL. Maybe it could culminate in Fight! challenges? As much as I want to play some awesome scenarios, I would really love to come home with an even better understanding of BW so I can spread the love and improve my home games.

Sure, I'd be down for that.

Hmm... less interest than we thought! We might have to scrap the tourney structure and go to one-on-ones against me or Yagathai.

I suspect that there will be more interest on-site than there is here in the forums. On 5/5/5 almost everyone present participated.

Yeah, I'd probably give it a shot, depending on what else is going on and if I'm not distracted elsewhere. Chances are I'd just make a fool of myself and get knocked out pretty quickly anyhow :)

Hi

In a more serious mind than my jokey trash talking earlier in the thread, while the idea sounds fun, it also sounds like it could be somewhat of a waste of a valuable slot.

I want to get good value out of every slot. Being British - and thus quite accustomed to a culture of losing - what happens if I get defeated in the first round? I don't wanna watch folks that are still in the tourney having fun - christ, that sounds dreadfully tiresome - or watch folks at tables actually playing a game. I want to do something that gives me maximum bang for my buck, and this tourney sounds like fun for you - Pete - and the folks that get a goodly way into the tourney and a bit of a non-event for everyone else.

How about doing the tourney on the Friday night as an icebreaker type thing that runs alongside all the other stuff? (Drinking, chowing, talking shit, playing Jungle Speed, meeting, greeting, trash talking, etc.)

With apologies if I come across sounding like a defeatist knob, crack on, cheers
Jungle Speed Wanking Pete

We've thought of that. Depending on the number of players, we're planning World Cup-style round-robin preliminary rounds so people are guaranteed to get at least three rounds of Fight in, win or lose, before the overall winners enter the elimination phase. And there's also the possibility of a loser's bracket, depending on the interest. We don't want anyone getting KOed in volley 1 and then have to sit on their hands for four hours.

Royal Rumble, Fight! style. 10 fighters enter, 1 fighter leaves!

Oh man. No. No, we are not doing that. But if you're volunteering...
