*Assign Mission *...

I don't think I'll use this one... but if for some reason you want a dramatic end to your current mice, it's all yours.

Assign Mission
Gwendolyn appears on on the podium, "A scout at an small outpost near Wild Country reported a weak spot in the Scent Border. We must assume the worst. Normally I wouldn't send a patrol out during Winter, but these of course are dire circumstances. A patrol may volunteer, but I warn you... this is a dangerous mission... you might not make it back."
(This mission is optional)

Ob. 1 Reach the Scent Border outpost near Wild Country and find out the status of the Guard stationed there.

1. "Your patrol is rushing toward The Scent Border in heavy snowfall."
Ob. 6 Pathfinder check ("long journey" (+3), "infrequently used" (+2), snow (+1))
P: goto 2
F: goto 2 (Hunger status)

2. "You enter the outpost, blood trails across the floor until it leads to the room with fireplace, now just smoldering ash. The Guardmouse is unconscious, and wounded."
Ob. 3 Healer check ("tending sick or injured" (+3))
P: goto 3
F: goto 4 (Tired status)

3. "Though it takes several hours, you manage to revive him. He is still recovering and has trouble talking but he says "In the basement there is a barrel of scent fluid... you need to repair the weak portion of the border... but be careful, you don't know what could be out there..."
goto Ob. 2

Ob. 2 Survive

1. "You arrive at the border with the barrel and begin to pour when suddenly, a howl sounds out, a pack of growling wolves walk up to the border. They just stand at the border, but one stops for a moment and then steps through. The others try to follow but can't seem to. The wolf now past the border attempts to bite one of the mice holding the barrel, but misses. It holds the barrel between it's teeth, the fluid is leaking into it's mouth, the wolf is obviously in pain. It quickly tosses the barrel into the snow, and turns his attention to the mice. Each of you draw your weapons."
Fight conflict with Wolf, then goto Ob. 3

Ob. 3 Repour the Scent Border

1. The massive body of the wolf lies dead, it's blood (, and the blood of [player that died if one did]) now soaks the snow beneath your feet. The outpost and the injured Guardmouse were destroyed in the battle. You must complete the mission for the safety of the territories!
Ob. 5 Scientist check ("repouring the Scent Border" (+4), snow (+1))
P: goto 2
F: goto 2 (gain a status condition)

2. "You roll the barrel now gushing with fluid all along the lines of the weak spot on the Border. You did it. You completed the mission."
Take a Nature/Survivalist roll against Winter's Nature of 7 to survive the storm. (This can be replaced with a harder test, or automatic death if you want.)
END

I'll be GMing my first game this weekend, and I need help getting my head around twists. It seems like if a mouse fails at pathfinding, you can introduce a twist like, say, it snows.

How does that work in the game world? The characters wouldn't see any relationship between those two events. I'm imagining the other mice being angry with the failed pathfinder. "Nice job, you did such a bad job at finding the path that it snowed."
Am I reading this wrong?

Sorry I keep writing these like there is no tommorow, but there is that Mouse Guard thing that I was talking about before (in which I'm the GM)...

Sorry I keep writing these like there is no tommorow, but there is that Mouse Guard thing that I was talking about before (in which I'm the GM) coming up and I'm scared I don't have enough stories. As always tell me if it's stupid, and what's stupid about it. Oh and I was going to ask, would not have me clutter up your mission forum section and just make one topic for every like 3 missions I'm making, or do you not mind this?

Escorting Merchandise

"You patrol is assigned to escort a merchant from - to -. He has called upon the Guard to protect him and rightfully so. He carries with him supplies - desperately needs. Normally he could make this journey by him self but for maximum time efficiency he needs to travel past a small lake a swampy thicket. Such places are ripe with dangers of snakes and other predators. Time is of the essence, be on your way."

Ob. 1 Escort

1. Ob. 5 Pathfinder check (a short journey +2, overgrown +3)
P: goto 2
F: Weather Twist: Cold Rain, goto 2

2. "You find the lake, but It's getting late. You could set up camp and rest until morning to get rest (and possibly wait out the storm), or keep moving through The Merchant's wares are needed in - as soon as possible, but staying up through night will cause fatigue (, and the storm could be hazardous.)"
Rest: goto 3
Keep Moving: goto 4

3. Ob. 6 Survivalist Check (+1 building a shelter, +2 for the patrol)
P: goto 5 (The Cold Rain stops)
F: goto 5

4. "You continue on the journey though the night"
All players gain the Tired status
goto 6

5. "You built adequate shelter for the night."
The entire party recovers from the Tired status condition if they have it.

6. "You stand in front of the lake, you just need to get the merchant to the other side.)
Ob. 4-6 Boatcrafter check (+1 one use, +3 patrol(+2 cold rain)) (Can be assisted by the Laborer, Smith, and Carpenter skills)
or
Ob. 5-7 Pathfinder check (+3 overgrown, +2 infrequently used, (+2 cold rain))
With either if the Cold Rain is present make a Nature check vs. Fall's Nature of 5, failure will result in sickness.
P: goto 7 (If you have passed every test thus far, and choose to move through the night: goto END)
F: goto 7 (gain hunger or tired)

7. "You build the boat and set off to the sea, the patrol and the Merchant are sailing along, but suddenly there is a loud screetch, a Hawk appears. It's right behind you!"
or
"You are walking along side the lake when suddenly you hear a loud screetch, a Hawk appears. It's right behind you!"
Take an Nature check vs. the Hawk' Nature of 7
P: "You manage to escape the Hawk" goto END
F: goto Ob. 2

Ob. 2 Kill the Hawk

Conflict with Hawk.
P: goto END

END. You have reached the other side of the lake, it is an easily travel from here and the Merchant no longer needs you to accompany him, the Merchant thanks you all.

Not owning Mouse Guard, unfortunately, I've cobbled together a Sling for BWG. Would like to know how it compares/holds up.

Sling
DoF - I: 1-3 M: 4-5 S: 6
Weapon Power: +1
VA: N/A
Range: 50 Paces (As Arquebus), +1D to Positioning in Optimal and Extreme/OoR conditions
Actions: Same as Thrown Weapons (2 in Fight!)
Price: 5 rps

This ignores the use of slings as an in-fighting weapon, but I was trying to keep it relatively honest and fair with regards to the other weapons of its sort. Its ammunition is nearly limitless, after all.

In a game permitting it, I'd let players take Sling instead of Bow wherever it'd be appropriate (as a Hunter, for example).

I was considering increasing the Weapon Power by one, or shifting the IMS to be like a Throwing Knife's, or increasing the Actions in a Fight! by one, but this seemed decent to me. Any thoughts?

The only time I've ever made a remotely decent hearted character, he had justice on the mind, but was obsessed like a 'Javert' type.

Would you say that is a negative and it disminishes the heroic feel to the game, or would you say that's just an interesting character?

I've started reading Burning Wheel (bye-bye, D&D), and I noticed a difference between BW and MG Instinct mechanics... I just want to be sure I dot all my i's here:
In BW, an Instinct seems to grant a free action; if Saxon were playing in BW, his "draw my sword at the first sign of trouble" instinct would guarantee that his sword was drawn in combat without his player having to say so. In Mouse Guard it's a roleplaying cue: His player must still say it/act it out to get the benefit of a Fate Point.
Am I correct in this instance? Thanks!

He sees the character as having been born to a noblewoman and raised somewhere else. Now he wants what his rightfully his: titles, castle, the whole caboodle.

I'm having trouble accepting this concept based on how vile the orcs are (according to the BW). I can see some good situations for this but it all depends on BITS and how the others truly accept the character and rationalize how they all work together.

Would this work? How would you make it work in a group of "normal" humans? How would society at large react to humans with the "orc taint?"

I wrote anouther mission. I don't know if it's interesting enough, so I think I at least need some feedback before I use it with the group. There is a certain lack of variety of what the players can actually do...I'm still really new to this game, so this is kinda... practice.

A Skink Situation
"Hungry Skinks have been raiding our cricket farms, and eatting our crops. We need you to search the area and cut down the population, or come winter we will surely starve."

(Skink-wise can be used to help vertually every check in Ob. 1)

Ob. 1 Reduce the local Skink population.
1. "There is reports of a large nest of about 14 eggs near here, if you can destroy that it should reduce this years Skink population"
Scout vs. Skink's Nature of 4+1(5)
P: goto 2
F: goto 2 (gain hungry status)

2. "You found the nest, you walk up to the nest, suddenly two Skinks appear... They don't seem to happy."
Ob. 4 Loremouse check or Conflict with two Skinks. Failing the Loremouse check will result in conflict. Destroying the eggs after successful Loremouse check will cause conflict (before going to Ob. 2.)
P:
either
"You destroy the eggs." goto Ob. 2
or
ex. "Convice the town to start raising Skink farms and train when they are young, bring the eggs to town... or some other pacifist option." goto Ob. 2 Meet Lord Hamshire if you didn't kill the two parent Skinks, goto Ob. 2 Don't die if you did but get +2D when trying to presuade or deceive him.

Ob. 2 Don't die. (result 1)
"A mouse mounting a Skink, in heavy armor, and a long decretive lance appears from the distance and rides up to your patrol, "My name is Lord Hamshire, King of the Skinks. I was once a mouse of great wealth and fortune, but long ago I renounced my place in Mouse society and left my riches to live amongst the Skinks. Your crimes against us have been great and you must pay for your actions... "

"What is that Skink? I should have a trail! No! I will hear no more of that nonsense, these mice are killers!... what's that? Haha, your knowledge of early 500's philosophy is quite impressive... *sigh* you know I can't say no to you... Alright murderous Mice, make your plea."

[Deceiver or Persuader vs. Lord Hamshire's Will of 5]

P: "Alright, I will let you off with only a warning but remember whenever there is a Skink in danger, I'll be there. Don't let me catch you killing my brothers and sisters again, or you will have your lives to pay. Yah!" Lord Hamshire tuggs on the reins and rides off into the distance. END

F: "I say guilty, and the punishment is death!" Lord Hamshire tuggs on the reins and rides off into the distance. and begins to charge the group.
Fight with Lord Hamshire.
THEN END

Ob. 2 Meet Lord Hamshire. (result 2)
Your people confronted you with a demand to kill my brothers and sisters of the Skink, but you would not have it, your love for the Skink is great. Here a token of my gratitude, treat him well.

Lord Hamshire gives Skink Egg (decide amongst the party who gets it, and if the party even wants it.)

Skink Egg
During this player turn this egg will turn into a Baby Skink. Baby Skinks will follow there master around and maybe even help with some tests (such tests are few and far between.) This will last 1 season, ending on a player turn, at which point the Baby will turn into a Young Skink that you can mount.
Young Skinks can help you with a variety of tests, unlock new oppurtunites, as well as grant you the benefits of its Nature, size, and weapons. You can use it's Nature of 3 (Digging, Cricket Hunter, Running, Climbing.) rather than your own mouse Nature. Therefore new opportunities will be avaliable based on Digging, Cricket Hunting, Running, and Climbing, and for such things where you normally be able to use your own Nature, you may use the Skink's.
During conflict which you are mounted, you must use the Skink's Nature instead of your own - It's rank and descriptors. Only shields, hook & lines, ranged, or spear length weapons can be used on the back of a Skink.
When you are mounting a Skink in combat, you may also use it's weapon: Detachable Tail - +2D to Maneuver once per fight.
After a full year of having the Young Skink, it turns into a normal Skink with Nature 4.

"Remember, whenever there is a Skink in danger, I'll be there. Yah!" Lord Hamshire tuggs on the reins and rides off into the distance. END"

The Scent Border
(We're going to do somewhat of a Mouse Guard spree of which I am the GM this is my attempt to plan. This one is probably going to be like session 4 or 5 but I still think it may be too hard, and I'm still really new to this... What do you think?)

Ob. 1 Repour the Scent Border.

1. Ob. 4 Scientist check. Laborer and Scent Border-wise can be used to help.
P: goto 2
F: goto 2 (gain Hungry or Tired status).

2. "A Weasel darts lightning fast past you. A Guard Captain runs up, out of breath, with a gash through his stomach and a now bloody cloak, yells "Stop him!" *he falls on his knees and his voice fades* "he's got... the recipe to the scent border... you can't let him escape with that... he also... has... my son." And then the he drops unconscious." goto Ob. 2.

Ob. 2 Track down a Weasel Spy that has just gotten past the scent border with important documents and information on the Scent Border.

1. Scout vs. Weasel's Nature of 5.
P: goto 3
F: goto 2

2. "You follow the Weasel Spy, two passing Weasel Soldiers spot you. The Spy darts away as the Soldiers approach."
Mouse Nature vs. the Weseals' Nature of 4+1(5)
P: "You run until you lose the Soldiers, but you have also lost the trail of the Weseal Spy." goto 4
F: Conflict with two Weasel Soldiers than goto 4

3. "You surround the Weasel. His towering form looms over each of you, but even so he knows that even he could not battle each of you and survive. He pulls out one of his two knifes, and pulls the Mouse to his chest with the knife to his throat and says "Stand back vermon! I escape with the recipe, or the Mouse dies."
(This problem has many awnsers, here are the three possible results.)
End 1. [Let the Mouse die and enter a conflict with the Spy]
or
End 2. [Let the Spy escape with the recipe and save the Mouse.]
or
End 3. [Get the recipe and and Mouse.]

ex. Try to kill the Weseal with a ranged weapon before he could kill the Mouse.
Ob. 6 Fighter check.
P: End 3. "You hit the Weseal right in the eye socket. It falls to the ground and drops the Mouse"
F: End 1 "The arrow hits him. The Weseal yells in pain and slits the throat of the Mouse, then pulls out his other knife and jumps at you." (The Spy loses 3 disposition at the start of the fight)

ex. Deceive the Weasel to give both.
Ob. 7 Desceiver check.
P: End 3. Then conflict.
F: End 1.

ex. Attack the Weseal, getting the recipe is more important than the life of a single Mouse.
End 1.

ex. Let him have the recipe, his life is more important.
End 2.

4. "The Spy can't be far."
Ob. 2 Scout check
P: goto 3
F: goto 3 (gain tired status)
