Kewl. What's the scale here? I can't tell how big they are.
The thoughts and opinions reflected in my posts are not necessarily those of The Burning Wheel. If I am not quoting exact text and giving you a page for reference, please add "I BELIEVE" to the beginning of every single sentence I ever write ever.
Well, these are my prototype dice... there about an inch to the side, so like oversized dice they sell at hobby stores...
I'm working on a new 16 mm set...

I loves me Burning Dice. Loves 'em. No more counting dots! What's better than that?! Instant feedback on my BW failure.

What is your process?

At your local arts and crafts store, get:
Small wooden cubes, preferably unpainted, but even if they're painted, they'll do. 80 cubes for about $2.00
Can of gray primer spray paint, for wood. About $6.00 depending on can size
Can of matte paint sealer for wood. About $6.00 depending on can size
Packet of sponge brushes, 'bout a buck for 6
Apple Barrel paints, one white, one black and one red
Fine point brush... usually sold individually for less than a buck, but a small set of 4 is like $4.00
One black Sharpie marker, with a fine point.
One sharp pencil, and a small coin or clothing button.
Some paper plates, to avoid a mess.
Optionally, some popsicle sticks with a little scotch tape or modeling clay or putty to get cubes to stick to the popsicles while you paint... though I forgot to buy some when I did mine.
Just apply 2 coats of everything...
Start with 2 coats of primer, letting dry in between. Then 2 coats of black for 3 sides, 2 coats of white for 2 sides. The final side can be left with the gray primer alone, but if needed, freshen up by mixing black and white paint to get gray. Use a normal die to guide yourself as to which side should go which color.
Then paint a cross or some crossed daggers or something on one of the white sides, with the sharpie (to mark the "1" on a regular die).
Trace a wheel with pencil using the coin or button, on one of the black sides, then just paint over that with the red paint and the fine brush. Add the spokes manually or with a ruler. 2 coats again. This marks the "6".
FInally, spray everything with the sealer. Again, two coats, letting dry in between, and voila... Burning dice!
Took me a whole afternoon, but the rate limiting step is the time to dry between paint coats... I did a set of 8 at one sitting.

I was really hoping this thread was going to be someone getting a group together to order some custom-made burning dice. Can someone do that? Because I'm lazy and the internet craves my money.
Nice dice, though!
Thanks!
I briefly looked at some sites, but honestly, couldn't think of a way to duplicate what I did, hence, I went for the DIY option...
If you find some site that sells them for a reasonable price, and if we can get a good design, I'll probably order some...
I *think* Luke has a set of custom dice...
Any chance you could post a picture of them, boss? Maybe we can copy the design, or something, or we could try to order from the same place that did yours...

Have you checked how true the dice roll? Not sure how many rolls you'll need to make to get semi-reliable results now that you have some duplicate sides. Probably roll till you get one single side to thirty or a double side to sixty and then compare totals.
How well is the surface holding up under use?

If anyone is willing to get to gether an order for making custom buring wheel dice, you can count me in.
I am assuming that the dice be in black and grey colours (I have never needed white in a game) would have blank sides for failure, A white or red Buring wheel for success and a Red burning wheel for a "6".
Chessex does it for:
10-25 dice: $1.00 per side
26-99 dice: $0.75 per side
100-199 dice: $0.60 per side
200-499 dice: $0.50 per side
500-999 dice: $0.42 per side
Q Workshop looks pretty cool too. I could not find their pricing though

Any takers?
